Pruning 101

Removing two dominant branches as demonstrated in the adjoining photos is necessary to sustain production and means to reestablishing new growth or laterals (branches). The pruning cut is beveled at an angle (wider on the bottom) in hopes of stimulating a new branch at or near this point. The color difference of the branches and trunk (dark and light tan) are evidence of new growth and a healthy tree.
